I am pleased to
announce the publication of José M. Allegue: A Builder's
Legacy, written by Christine G.H. Franck. A labor of love, this
limited-edition book is the culmination of my dream of documenting the
work of a master craftsman, Joe Allegue. Between 1941 and 1968, Mr.
Allegue built single-family custom homes in the “Five Towns”
of Nassau County, Long Island. Unknown outside the area, he was beloved
by those for whom he built houses and many who worked with him. My family
lived in two of his houses, and I count myself among his many admirers.
My hope is that this book will contribute to a greater appreciation
of his work and the importance of craft to the creation of a beautiful
and appropriate home.
