Giving Thanks
We have so much to be thankful for here at Crossroads Farm at Grossmann's.
Thank you - our volunteers and our customers - for making our first year such a success. Can you believe all that we accomplished?
- Earning organic certification
- Growing and harvesting a wide variety of our own vegetables
- Bringing back the tradition of Long Island sweet corn back to Malverne
- Fixing up and opening our indoor farm stand
- Installing three walk-in refrigerators
- Meeting and exceeding our goal of selling over $100,000 of produce
- Hiring our first field and farm stand employees
- Engaging over 80 regular, committed volunteers
- Smoothly executing multiple educational and community events including the Fall Festival, Locavore Challenge Potluck, and a movie night.
We would like to express our deep thanks to our volunteer coordinators, Susan Proven and Heather Principe, for coordinating our large crew of regular, committed volunteers throughout the season. Susan's commitment to coordinating daily field and farm stand volunteers gave our small staff crucial support throughout the season. Susan also organized all our volunteers at the Fall Festival! Heather's efforts to organize large "crop mobs" of volunteers allowed us to get a lot of work done in a short period of time.
Together, we have accomplished so much in our first year. We would not have been able to accomplish all this without you. Crossroads Farm has completely transformed during our first growing season, but this is only the beginning of our multi-year farm restoration project. Let's spend the winter resting and dreaming of what the farm can become and hit the ground running this spring!
Thank you from Farm Staff...
All of the staff of Crossroads Farm are passionate about local food and sustainable agriculture and strive to establish what Bill calls a "culture of agriculture" here in South Nassau. It is a privilege to be a part of our nation's local food movement as we dig our way into suburbia. Bill especially appreciates the opportunity to work side by side with a diverse group of volunteers who are passionate about food and farming. Lisa cherishes the community that has developed around the farm and is grateful to work an environment where people so frequently stop by the farm to lend a hand, check in, or just say hi. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve our country food!

Looking Ahead - The Farm Reopens in April 2012
Our farm stand is now closed for the season. We are in the process of installing a wood stove to heat the farm stand... Perhaps in a few weeks, we'll all be gathering by the wood stove reminiscing about the past year and dreaming of the next!
See you in the fields and greenhouses in March and at the farm stand when we re-open in April of 2012!
Once again - thank you for all that you have contributed during our first season!
